I didn’t. I don’t know why you’re here, but a few housekeeping things (or really, just one housekeeping thing) before we get started:
This whole blog is a big ol’ play on René Magritte. I want to clear this up just because I don’t want to explain the joke 50 million times. I personally love Dadaist and Surrealist art. René Magritte was a Belgian Surrealist artist who was very popular in the 1950’s for doing crazy works like painting people with fruit obscuring their faces and men falling from the sky and just generally creating images that conceal absolutely nothing. First, the title for this blog is a play on one of Magritte’s most famous pieces, The Treachery of Images. The painting shows a pipe with the text “This is not a pipe” below in French. I won’t explain the whole meta behind this sick piece of art, but basically Magritte is telling you that indeed this is not a pipe. It’s a painting of a pipe. Just like this is not a true blog. It’s an assignment in blog form for a social media class.

Second, the URL for this blog is based on a quote from Magritte: “The present reeks of mediocrity and the atom bomb.”
I’m not gonna lie. I find this quote both hilarious and abysmally relatable considering out current political situation.
Either way, you should 100% read up on René Magritte. A real cool dude.
Anyhow, housekeeping issues dealt with. Enjoy your stay.
[…] Specifically René Magritte. You guys all know I love me some Magritte, especially if you read my last blog post explaining this whole blog. The piece of art I talked about in that blog post is actually the same […]
