Chernow to Take WHCD

So. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The Dinner is typically an opportunity for journalists to brush shoulders with celebrities and political elites and traditionally features a comedic host. Past hosts have included Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and Conan O’Brien, but this year will apparently be different. Instead of a famous comedian headlining the dinner, presidential biographer and historian Ron Chernow will take the mic. Perhaps most famous for his biography Alexander Hamilton, which inspired the hit Broadway musical, Ron Chernow was chosen by the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) to host the supposedly light-hearted event and has inspired various reactions.ron chernow

Multiple news outlets including CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post have already jumped on the story, offering speculations on what Mr. Chernow will speak about. Some believe that Ron Chernow will use his considerable historical knowledge to lowkey roast the president during his speech. Others want a comedian to write Mr. Chernow’s speech for him. Still others don’t want Mr. Chernow there at all.

Unfortunately, everything right now is speculation. We will simply have to wait for the Dinner to see what Mr. Chernow has in store for us. I’m personally very excited for what Mr. Chernow has to say. I’ve read both Alexander Hamilton and Washington: A Life, so I am very familiar with the man’s writing ability. It will definitely be interesting to see how that translates into a speech.
